Description

A delicious recipe featuring tender steak bites marinated in a flavorful blend of lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and spices, then seared to perfection and tossed with golden browned gnocchi sautéed in butter and garlic. Perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak Marinade

  • 1 pound beef sirloin steak or beef tenderloin
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Gnocchi and Finishing

  • 2 pounds dried packaged gnocchi
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the steak: Dice the steak into bite-sized pieces and trim off any excess fat or sinew. Place the steak bites into a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag or a shallow bowl for marinating.
  2. Marinate the steak: Add lemon juice, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the steak. Toss to coat evenly, seal or cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour to allow flavors to develop.
  3. Cook the gnocchi: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package directions until they float to the surface. Drain the gnocchi and set aside.
  4. Sear the steak bites: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Using tongs, add half of the marinated steak to the skillet, leaving most of the marinade behind to avoid steaming. Cook the steak bites, stirring occasionally, until they are seared and browned. Remove cooked steak from skillet and set aside. Repeat with the remaining steak bites, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  5. Combine and sauté: Return all cooked steak bites to the skillet. Add butter and minced garlic and allow the garlic to toast for about 1 minute over medium heat. Add the cooked gnocchi and sauté everything together for 3 to 5 minutes until the gnocchi is lightly browned.
  6. Serve: Serve the steak bites and gnocchi hot with freshly grated Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the skillet when searing steak bites to ensure they brown properly rather than steam.
  • You can marinate the steak bites for up to 8 hours for more intense flavor, but at least 1 hour is needed.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor when sautéing with butter and gnocchi.
  • Grated Parmesan is optional but adds a nice salty, savory finish to the dish.
  • If desired, swap butter for olive oil for a lighter finish.
  • Make sure to drain the gnocchi well to avoid excess water in the skillet.
