Dough and Filling
- 1 tube refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice
Topping
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Whipped cream for dipping, optional
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Pumpkin Mixture: In a small bowl, combine pumpkin puree, brown sugar, maple syrup, and pumpkin spice thoroughly.
- Prepare Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a cutting board and cut it in half to create two identical rectangles placed side by side.
- Assemble Layers: Spread the pumpkin mixture evenly over one rectangle of dough, then place the second rectangle on top, aligning all edges carefully to sandwich the filling.
- Cut Strips: Use a pizza cutter to slice the layered dough into strips about 3/4 inch wide.
- Twist Strips: Transfer the strips to the prepared baking sheet and twist each by holding one end and twisting twice, then the other end for another two to three twists.
- Add Topping: Brush each twist generously with melted butter, then mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle evenly over the twists.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 11 minutes or until the twists are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve with whipped cream for dipping, if desired.
Notes
- Use canned pumpkin puree for convenience, but fresh pumpkin can be cooked and pureed as an alternative.
- Adjust the amount of pumpkin spice to your taste preference.
- Ensure the dough rectangles are aligned well to prevent filling leakage.
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
- Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
- These twists can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
