Description

Delight in homemade strawberry toaster strudels with flaky puff pastry filled with sweet strawberry jam, topped with a smooth vanilla icing glaze. Perfect for a breakfast treat or snack, these pastries are easy to make and bake to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastries

  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • ¾ cup strawberry jam

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 Tablespoon water

Icing

  • ½ cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1½ teaspoons whole milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla powder, optional

Instructions

  1. Thaw and preheat: Thaw puff pastry according to package directions. Heat oven to 375℉ (190℃). Line two sheet pans with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Prepare bottom pastry layer: Unfold one sheet of pastry and smooth out seams. Cut into 6 equal rectangles. Place rectangles on prepared sheet pan. Spoon 2 tablespoons of strawberry jam into the center of each rectangle and spread evenly, leaving a ½-inch border on all sides.
  3. Apply egg wash: Whisk the egg and water together in a small bowl to make the egg wash. Using a pastry brush, brush the egg wash around the edges of each dough rectangle with jam.
  4. Top layer preparation: Unfold the second sheet of puff pastry and smooth out seams. Cut into 6 equal rectangles. Place one rectangle on top of each jam-filled piece and gently press to seal.
  5. Seal edges: Use a fork to press around the seams of each pastry to create a seal, being careful not to press all the way through the dough. Brush the tops with remaining egg wash.
  6. Chill the pastries: Place the assembled pastries in the freezer for about 30 minutes to chill and firm up before baking.
  7. Bake: Bake the chilled pastries for 25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Make the icing: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla powder (if using) until smooth.
  9. Drizzle icing: Once pastries are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the icing over the tops.

Notes

  • For best flavor and texture, enjoy the strudels fresh out of the oven.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat leftovers in a toaster oven or conventional oven until heated through for crispiness.
  • If you prefer a dairy-free version, substitute whole milk in the icing with almond or oat milk and omit vanilla powder if unavailable.
  • Ensure your puff pastry sheets are fully thawed before working to avoid tearing.
