Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 bottle non-alcoholic red wine OR 4 cups pomegranate or grape juice
- 2 oranges (or blood oranges)
- 20 black grapes, sliced
- 15 blackberries or blueberries
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 red apple, sliced
- 2 cups sparkling water or ginger ale (optional)
- 2-4 tablespoons maple syrup (optional)
- Extra fruit for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Fruit and Spices: Place the sliced oranges, black grapes, blackberries or blueberries, sliced red apple, and cinnamon sticks in a large pitcher or punch bowl.
- Add the Base Liquid: Pour in the non-alcoholic red wine or the chosen fruit juice. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
- Mull the Mocktail: Cover and place the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, ideally up to 2-4 hours, to let the flavors blend and deepen.
- Add Sparkling Beverage: Before serving, stir the mixture again and gently add the sparkling water or ginger ale if using. Stir carefully to maintain the bubbles.
- Adjust Sweetness: Taste the mocktail and add maple syrup one tablespoon at a time as desired, stirring gently after each addition until you reach your preferred sweetness.
- Serve and Garnish: Pour the mocktail over ice in glasses and garnish with extra fruit slices and cinnamon sticks if desired. Serve chilled and enjoy.
Notes
- Use a non-alcoholic Merlot or Shiraz for the most authentic sangria flavor, but any non-alcoholic red wine or red juice like pomegranate or grape juice works well.
- Adjust sweetness by adding maple syrup gradually after tasting the mocktail with the sparkling beverage to avoid over-sweetening.
- For smaller servings or single servings, reduce the quantities accordingly. This recipe is optimal for at least 3 servings to let flavors meld well.
- Allow mulling time for best results, as longer steeping enhances the fruit and cinnamon flavors.
