Description

A delicious and easy-to-make recipe for white wine garlic mussels, cooked in a buttery garlic chili sauce with fresh lemon juice and parsley. Perfect as a flavorful appetizer or a light main course served with crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • kg mussels in shells (cleaned)
  • ½ cup butter
  • 6 garlic cloves thinly sliced
  • 1 red chilli finely chopped
  • 1½ cups white wine
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp parsley finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter: Melt the butter in a deep pan with a lid over medium heat until fully melted and hot.
  2. Add Garlic and Chilli: Add the thinly sliced garlic and finely chopped red chilli to the melted butter and cook for 30 seconds or until fragrant, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Add Wine and Lemon Juice: Pour in the white wine and lemon juice, then bring the mixture to a simmer to combine the flavors.
  4. Cook Mussels: Add the cleaned mussels to the pan, cover with the lid, and cook for 5 minutes or until all the mussels have opened. Discard any mussels that remain closed after cooking.
  5. Add Parsley and Season: Stir in the finely chopped parsley and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Serve the mussels immediately with crusty bread for dipping into the flavorful sauce.

Notes

  • Make sure to clean and debeard the mussels thoroughly before cooking to remove any grit or debris.
  • Discard any mussels that do not open during cooking as they may not be safe to eat.
  • Adjust the amount of chili to your spice preference or omit if you prefer a milder dish.
  • Serve with crusty bread to soak up the delicious garlic and wine sauce.
  • Use a dry white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio for the best flavor.
