Description

A spooky and delicious Halloween-themed dessert featuring layers of chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, and whipped cream, topped with ghostly Peeps and candy bones to create a fun and festive treat perfect for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake and Pudding

  • 600 g chocolate cake (2 store-bought loaf cakes)
  • 3 boxes (113 g each) chocolate instant pudding mix
  • ½ litre whipping cream

Decorations

  • 12 ghost Peeps (6 per box)
  • ½ teaspoon green food coloring
  • Candy bloody bones (quantity as needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare pudding: Following the package instructions, prepare the chocolate instant pudding mixes and set them aside to thicken.
  2. Break cake: Crumble or break up the chocolate cake into small pieces suitable for layering in cups.
  3. Layer dessert cups: Add a layer of broken cake pieces to the bottom of each cup.
  4. Add pudding layer: Spoon a layer of chocolate pudding over the cake layer in each cup.
  5. Add second cake layer: Add another layer of broken cake pieces over the pudding.
  6. Final pudding layer: Spoon a final layer of chocolate pudding over the second cake layer.
  7. Whip cream: Whip the whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Add green food coloring and mix gently for decorative use.
  8. Add whipped cream: Add a little whipped cream on top of the pudding layer in each cup.
  9. Decorate ghosts: Using an edible marker, color the eyes and mouth on each ghost Peep, focusing on the eyes and nose area for spooky effect.
  10. Assemble decoration: Place a decorated ghost Peep in the center of each cup.
  11. Finish touches: Sprinkle some more cake crumbs over the top to resemble dirt and garnish with candy bloody bones.
  12. Repeat: Repeat the layering and decorating steps for the remaining 11 cups.

Notes

  • Use store-bought chocolate loaf cakes for convenience; homemade chocolate cake can be used for extra flavor.
  • Prepare the pudding ahead to allow it to thicken properly for layering.
  • Whipped cream can be gelatin-stabilized if you want firmer topping that holds shape longer.
  • The green food coloring in whipped cream is optional and can be skipped if you prefer plain white topping.
  • Use an edible marker specifically designed for food to safely decorate the ghost Peeps.
  • If candy bloody bones are unavailable, substitute with red-colored candy or gummy candies for similar effect.
  • These dessert cups are best served chilled and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
