Description

Crispy and sweet Air Fryer Apple Fries coated with apple pie spice and served with a vanilla glaze dip. A healthier and quick dessert or snack made with Granny Smith apples, perfect for an air fryer.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Fries

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup all purpose flour (130 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon apple pie spice
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar
  • Cooking spray

Dip

  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons whole milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Peel the apples and slice them into thin strips using a sharp knife or a fry cutter. Set aside.
  2. Mix dry coating: In a small bowl, whisk together the all purpose flour and apple pie spice.
  3. Whisk eggs: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs until well combined.
  4. Coat the apple fries: Working in small batches, toss the apple strips first in the flour mixture, shake off excess flour, then dip into the whisked eggs, shake off excess egg, and dip back into the flour mixture coating evenly. Shake off extra flour to ensure crispiness. Place coated fries on a wire rack lined with parchment paper.
  5. Preheat air fryer: Set air fryer to 325ºF.
  6. Air fry apple fries: Spray the air fryer basket generously with cooking spray. Place apple fries in a single layer without overlapping. Spray tops with cooking spray. Cook for 5 minutes, flip fries, spray again, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Add cinnamon sugar: Remove fries from air fryer and place on a cooling rack or basket. Immediately sprinkle cinnamon sugar on hot fries so it sticks well.
  8. Repeat batch cooking: Cook remaining apple fries in batches following the same procedure, coating with cinnamon sugar while still warm.
  9. Make the glaze: Whisk confectioners sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon milk together in a small bowl, adding more milk as needed to reach desired consistency.
  10. Serve: Serve apple fries warm with the vanilla glaze as a dip or drizzle over the fries for extra sweetness.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, substitute half the all purpose flour with corn starch.
  • Use parchment paper under the wire rack to catch excess flour and make cleanup easier.
  • Spraying both the basket and fries generously with cooking oil helps achieve a crispy texture.
  • The apple fries are best served immediately for optimal crispiness.
